Nielsen, Alvin D. 'Butch'

Alvin D. “Butch” Nielsen, 63, of Iowa City, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.

Butch was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Sioux City, the son of Alvin C. and Hilda (Hansen) Nielsen. He attended school in Sioux City, Iowa, and worked at Iowa Beef Packers before moving to Iowa City about 30 years ago, here he enjoyed music, the outdoors and fishing. He was employed by Goodwill Industries for many years.

His family includes his daughter, Janice Townsend and her husband, Stephen of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Cassandra, Natasha and Mikel; three sisters, Amelia K. (Trudy), Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Smith, all of Sioux City and Mrs. Robert (Pamela) Anderson of Iowa City; and two brothers, Fred, from Salem, S.D. and Roger, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. David (Karen) Smith.

Memorial services will held at a later date.
