Nickels, Alma Ann
Alma Ann Nickels, 85, of Anamosa, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Anamosa. The Rev. Ron Thatcher will officiate at the service. The burial will be a private family service. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are two sons Dale (Ruby) Nickels of Black Hawk, S.D., and James (B.J.) Nickels of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a sister Evelyn Scott of Anamosa; two grandchildren, Shannon (Lorrie) Nickels and Gina (Kevin) Green, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a special granddaughter, Amy Walker of Anamosa; two great-grandsons, Andrew Nickels and Kyler Parker, of Colorado Springs.
Alma is preceded in death by her husband, Laurence, in July 2002; two sisters, Roberta Lacy and Dorothy Hurt; four brothers, Howard, Charles, Dowell and Ted Hurt; a grandson, Steven Nickels, and great-granddaughter Whitney Nickels.
Alma was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Martelle. She was the daughter of John (Ed) Hurt and Jessie Long. On Oct. 5, 1941, Alma and Laurence Nickels were united in marriage in Kahoka, Mo. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anamosa. Alma hosted Tuesday coffee club and for over 45 years a weekly bible study in her home. One of her biggest passions was baby-sitting, which she enjoyed for more than 25 years. Alma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
