Nicholas Rodriguez, 42, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Katie Freymark; brothers, Mario (Elia) Rodriguez of Austin, Texas, and Jesse (Debra) Rodriguez of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Victoria (Ferdinand) Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Paula (Don) Hartman of Sedalia, Mo., Paulette (Mark) Drew of Ankeny, Alicia Rodriguez of Cedar Rapids and Teresa (Scott) Walton of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was born Sept. 23, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Zenaido and Eva (Arenas) Rodriguez. He graduated from Regis High School in 1990 and went on to earn his degree from Mount Mercy College. Nick worked as a manager for Knights of Columbus Council 909, where he was a third degree knight. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan, especially baseball and the Chicago Cubs. Nick had a great love for his many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
