Nicholas “Nick” Thomson, 40, passed away during a fishing outing, with his brother and good friend, on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Private family services and burial will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring at the Sutliff Store.
Nick was born November 2, 1984, in Iowa City, the son of Danny and Julie (Ketchum) Thomson. He graduated from Lisbon High School, class of 2003. Nick was united in marriage to Hailey Goetschius on May 26, 2013, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Solon. They welcomed their son, Wyatt on December 27, 2018. Nick enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, playing cards, going to “Coffee Club” at Sutliff, and most of all spending time with his son and wife.
Nick is survived by his wife Hailey; son Wyatt; his parents Danny and Julie Thomson; his brother Ryan (Danielle) Thomson; three nephews Liam, Tyson and Ryder; his sister Christine (Brian) Thomson-DeWitt; his maternal grandmother Carol Ketchum; future sister-in-law Jessica Sass; his father and mother-in-law Mark and Judy Goetschius; sister-in-law Karah (Erik) Hoffer; three nieces Madison, Makenna and Kaycee; sister-in-law Taylor (Alex) Schaben; brother-in-law Drew Goetschius; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Francis and Marie Thomson; maternal grandfather Mervin Ketchum, and his brother Mitchell Thomson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
