Nicholas Craig Usher, 27, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, due to complications from a medical condition. A visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
He is survived by his mom, Michelle Siegert, and stepdad, Bob (Mom and Bob) of Victoria, Minn; siblings, Andy Usher and Dan Usher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Samantha (Joseph) Dalton of Seattle, Wash.; his grandmother, Carol Martin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his big and gentle Bernese mountain dog, Tibbers; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jon D. Usher in 2013; his grandparents, Burt Martin and John and Connie Usher; and cousin, Jake Dye.
Nicholas Craig Usher was born Aug. 28, 1991, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the beloved son of Michelle and the late Jon D. Usher. He graduated from Chaska High School in Minnesota. Nick loved strategy games and football, especially the Packers. He also loved martial arts, specifically Wing Chun, motivating him to set up a dojo in his basement for great times with friends. Nick's true passion was all the great times spent with his friends and family. He had a very special bond with his grandmother, Carol. They would often enjoy coffee around her kitchen table and share lots of laughs. He was a very good cook and known for his homemade meatballs and would often make at least six pounds at a time. Nicholas demonstrated his skill in the kitchen by cooking a perfect Thanksgiving turkey this year.
Nicholas was known for his big brown eyes, dark curly hair and cocking his head when you said something strange. He was caring, compassionate and a giving young man. Nicholas was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was taken from us much too soon, but his spirit, and love for life will be with us always.
