Newman, Ruth Ione
Ruth Ione Newman, 79, of the Coralville area died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will be at a later date in Monmouth, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.

Ruth Ione Kirschner was born Feb. 7, 1934, in Montrose, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Hazel Kirschner. Following graduation from high school, she attended beautician's school. She was united in marriage to Dean E. Newman in Monmouth, Ill. For many years she worked for U.S. West at their Fort Madison, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids offices. The past 20 years she had lived in the Iowa City area where she had also worked for the former Lark Supper Club and the Casey's General Store in North Liberty. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty, she enjoyed reading and crocheting, spending time with her family, especially cooking for them as they thought she was the best cook ever!
Her family includes her children, Diane Rotter (Randy) of North Liberty, Terry Newman of Phoenix, Ariz. and Denise Scott (Mike) of Coralville; five grandchildren, Taylor and Emma Newman and Michael, Michelle and Melissa Scott; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Zoey Collins; and her brother, Laverne Kirschner of Moberly, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; and her daughter, Deone Griffith.
