Newland, Charlotte Ann

CENTER POINT - Charlotte Ann Newland, 83, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Center Point, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the care center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.

Survivors include her son, Roger (Mary) Newland of Marshalltown; her grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) McDowell of Boone and Brian (Monica) McDowell of Ankeny; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Mikayla, Hailey, Cooper and Caden; sister, Gladys Jones of Marion; and a son-in-law, Tom Petersen of Boone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan; and daughter, Murt.

Charlotte was born Aug. 31, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Katie (Simanek) Horak, in Center Point, Iowa. A graduate from Center Point High School, she was united in marriage to Ivan Newland on April 28, 1946. He died Nov. 27, 2005.

Charlotte was a member of the Alert Homemaker Club, American Legion Auxiliary in Center Point, Pythian Sisters and Bridge Club. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, fishing, and traveling, especially to Branson, Mo., and a special trip to Hawaii.
