Newcomb, Dororthy
Dorothy Newcomb, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, following a long illness. Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where a rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas; her children, Steven (Kim) Newcomb, Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Lynda) Newcomb, Cedar Rapids, Mark (Patsy) Newcomb, Denver, Colo., David (Julie) Newcomb, Cedar Rapids, and Mary (Mark) Novak, Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Corey, Sarah, Matt, Max, Mark, Dirk and Megan; six great-grandchildren; granddog, Wiley; and siblings, Gene (Sandy) Toton, Cedar Rapids, Mary (Daryl) Hynek, Swisher, and Ann Roberts, Albuquerque, N.M.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
Born July 30, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, Dorothy was the daughter of Peter and Viola (Farni) Toton. In 1955, she graduated from St. Patrick's High School and then married Tom Newcomb. She worked for Quaker Oats for almost 25 years.
After she retired, she and Tom loved to travel so they would take cruises all around the world. She also loved to embroider and read in her spare time but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dorothy's memory.
