NEOMA MARIE "BABE" GUENTHER

Neoma Marie "Babe" Guenther, 96, of Dundee, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at her residence. She was born on Aug. 30, 1924, in Wadena, the daughter of Adolph and Dorothy (Walters) Weber. Babe was raised and educated in Wadena and was a 1941 graduate of Wadena High School. She then attended Upper Iowa University for one year.
On Sept. 1, 1944, Babe was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Guenther at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Three children were born to this union. Babe worked at Raytheon in Oelwein. She then returned to Upper Iowa University and later received her teaching degree. The family moved to Dundee in 1955 where Babe taught seventh and eighth grade at the Dundee School. After the school was closed, Babe taught at the West Delaware Middle School until retiring in 1986.
Babe was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. She and Bob enjoyed dancing with the Country Cousins Square Dance Club. Babe owned two racehorses and enjoyed watching them run at the Quad City Downs in East Moline, Ill. She loved going to Branson, Mo., to watch the shows. Babe was very involved with Dundee Days and for many years organized the Dundee Days Parade. She also was a longtime 4-H club leader for the Dundee Luckies. Babe sang with the Sonshine Singers through her church. She was a very outgoing, social person who enjoyed being with others. Babe especially loved being with her family.
Survivors include her two daughters, Lynne Smith of Davenport and Lisa (Randy) Rhoades of Madison, Ala.; one granddaughter, Cathy (Chris) Gimm of Davenport; one great-grandson, Michael (JaLynne) Gimm of Davenport; one great-great-granddaughter, Jordyn Gimm of Davenport; one sister-in-law, Pauline Weber of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Babe was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bob Guenther in 2013; her son, Larry Guenther; her parents; two brothers, Arthur Weber and Herbert (Ruth) Weber; and one sister, Bonita (Laverne) Gardner.

Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are required at the funeral home.
Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Oelwein, Iowa.
