Virginia “Gen” Una (Bowker) Nemecek, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Christ Episcopal Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Martha Rogers.Visitation: one hour before the service at the church.Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include three sons, Doug Myers of Cedar Rapids, Terry (Tina) Nemecek of Cedar Rapids, John (Vicki) Nemecek of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter, Joanne Myers; brother, Bill Bowker of California; sister, Jean of Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Gen was born May 10, 1921, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of George and Winifred (Gale) Bowker.She married Clarmont “Jack” Nemecek on Aug. 31, 1940, in Wynedott, Mich. Gen and Jack loved to cook and owned and operated the Wendy Oaks Country Club. She was a member of the Eastern Star and volunteered with the American Cancer Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Wendy; sister, Catherine; and stepmother, Mary Glidden.

Memorials are suggested to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Christ Episcopal Church.
