Nelson Ray Meyers, 72, Tipton, peacefully passed away April, 30, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral Services for Nelson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Tipton’s First United Church of Christ, with Pastor Kerri Sandusky officiating. Burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First United Church of Christ in Tipton.
Nelson was born November 10, 1951 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Nora (Knepper) Meyers. He graduated from Tipton High School and proudly served in the United States Army. On September 22, 1991, he was united in marriage to Marcia Miller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they had two daughters; Penny (Pratt) and Stacy (Irons).
After serving in the United States Army, Nelson committed his life to farming in Cedar County, Iowa. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. Nelson was on the Board of Directors for the Cedar County Cooperative from 2007-2016, serving 3 years as Board President. He was an avid bowler, who also had his usual coffee and pop stops around town. He frequented the VFW, and really enjoyed the Eagles Club. His presence will notably be missed around Tipton.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Marcia Meyers and his daughters, Penny (Scotty) Pratt of Tipton, IA and Stacy Irons of Houston, TX; his sisters, Janice Meyers and Linda Tebussek, both of Cedar Rapids, IA; 3 grandchildren, Justina (Austin) Wood, Lexi and Danika Pratt; and 2 great-grandchildren, Tate and Tenley Wood, all residing in Tipton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Nora Meyers, Lee Meyers and Mike Tebussek.
