Nelda Miller Embree, 89, died peacefully Friday, July 24, 2015, with family by her side, at Emery Place Living Center, Robins. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where visitation will start after 9 a.m. Private family interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Mona Burns is officiating at the service.

Nelda was born June 12, 1926, at the Anamosa hospital to Dwight and Lois (Martens) Pulver. She attended Morley Schools and graduated from Anamosa Community Schools in 1943. She continued her education at the University of Dubuque. On May 23, 1945, she married Robert J. Miller. The couple had six children together. Robert died in 1999. Nelda worked as a secretary for 16 years at Iowa State Industries in Anamosa. Nelda married Verne Embree on July 8, 2001, in Laconia, N.H. Verne preceded her in death in 2007.
Nelda loved her music and her piano. She had the privilege of playing the organ in the Methodist church and at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She gave piano lessons and taught music for one year at St. Patrick's Catholic School. Nelda also played in the Al Weiss dance band at the Wapsipinicon Country Club.
Nelda was district director for the Wapsiketa IWLA. She belonged to the BPW, Anamosa Hospital Auxiliary, Fortynight Club, UGO & IGO and the Concord Table.
Nelda's love and faith in God, like her music, flowed from her heart into the lives of others. She maintained her sweet spirit and testimony for Jesus, living as a witness and light to others through her last days.
Nelda is survived by hrt six children, Bob (Diane) Miller of Maitland, Fla., Linda (John) Payne of Central City, Tom (Jeannie) Miller of Sparks, Nev., Bill (Lisa) Miller of Palo, Rene Miller of Anamosa and Natalie (Jerry) Balek of Newton. She has been blessed with 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.
