Nelda Siebels Bettes, 93, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Jones Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, with interment in Wayne Zion Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Katie Lowe Lancaster will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, has been entrusted with the services.

Surviving are six children, Carolyn Otten, Anamosa, Ron Siebels, Anchorage, Alaska, Donald Siebels, Springdale, Ark., Evelyn Merrill, Anamosa, Helen Beardmore, Dorchester, and Galen Siebels, Anamosa; adopted son, Wayne Patterson, Guthrie, Okla.; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carrie Hart, Tucson, Ariz., and Margaret Peiffer, Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Vern Siebels and Martin Bettes; a grandson, Lance Siebels; five brothers and three sisters.
Nelda Marie Houstman was born May 17, 1923, in Jackson Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Francis M. and Mildred R. Raymond Houstman. She attended Newport rural school and Olin High School. She married Vern Siebels on July 12, 1942, at University City, Mo. The couple farmed in Jones County near Amber. Vern died Oct. 30, 1998. Nelda married Martin Bettes on Feb. 5, 2000. They lived in Guthrie, Okla. He would precede her in death on Nov. 2, 2009. Nelda moved back to Anamosa in 2010.
She had been a member of the Amberettes and Amber Community Club.
