Nejdl, Leonard Jerry
Leonard Jerry Nejdl, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with the Rev. W. Bramwell Harnish and the Rev. Gerald Rife presiding. Burial will follow in the Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Leonard was born May 23, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jack and Mary (Jelinek) Nejdl. He married Sheryl Lerch on July 27, 1963, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Leonard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Leonard worked for over 43 years for Chicago Northwestern / Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of CSA Lodge Prokop Velky No. 137. Leonard enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping and being a gate attendant at West Overlook Campground, and time spent with his family, especially the grandkids.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children, Lynne (Paul) Erger of Marengo and Doug (Brenda) Nejdl of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Mason, Mitchell, Brooke and Wyatt; an uncle, Leonard Jelinek of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Marj Nejdl of Ely; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Ed.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and/or American Diabetes Foundation in Leonard's name.
