Neil Allen Wood, 89, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at his home. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, located at 3855 Katz Dr., Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at First United Methodist Church, located at 5050 REC Dr., Marion, conducted by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Neil was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Marion, Iowa, the son of Charles and Daisy (Knapp) Wood. He graduated from Marion High School in 1948, and on Sept. 4, 1949, at First United Methodist Church in Marion, he was united in marriage to Eula Eileen Parton. Neil was employed at Rockwell International as a machine operator until retiring in 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Eula Wood; sons-in-law, Ted Leymaster and Pat Moore; four grandchildren, Kara (Randy) Steffen, Nick (Joni) Leymaster, Sarah (Rick) Davenport and Emily (Matt) Long; 14 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Maxwell, Sophia, Henry, Timothy, Lucas, Neil, Kale, Brady, Zac, Emmett, Ruby, Michael and Lilly; and sister-in-law, Velma (Richard) Rainville.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Eileen Moore and Sharon Leymaster; great-granddaughter, Justina Steffen; and siblings, Myron Wood, Ronald Wood, Vera Shore, Madge King and Irma Hotz.
A memorial fund has been established in Neil's memory.
