Neil Steven Schmidt, 51, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on October 12, 2025, in Marion.
Born on April 2, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Neil was the son of Dennis John Schmidt and Linda Sue Schmidt, who preceded him in death. He attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a field that reflected his thoughtful and analytical nature.
Neil dedicated over 25 years of his professional life as a systems analyst at Pearson, where his commitment and expertise left a lasting impression on colleagues and the organization.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sarah Schmidt (Ritchie), and their daughters, Ivy Faith and Kathryn Elizabeth. Neil also leaves behind his brother, Eric Schmidt (Jennifer Killion); his sister, Sara Schmidt; his in-laws, Ronald and Barbara Ritchie; two nephews and one niece. His beloved dogs—Charlie, Luna, and Percy—were cherished companions and an important part of his life.
Neil was a kind, gentle soul who deeply loved his wife, daughters, and animals. His quiet strength and warmth touched the lives of those around him and will be remembered with great affection.
May his memory bring comfort and peace to all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at FaithLife Lutheran Church, 8300 C Ave, Marion, Iowa. A time for visitation will be held starting at 9:30.
