Nehl, Rose Mary
Rose Mary Nehl, of Monticello, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Keith Birch will be the officiant.
Rose was born May 10, 1918, in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Krogman) Lahr. She married Wallace Nehl on Sept. 26, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sand Springs. Together they farmed near Monticello until retiring in 1983.
Surviving are four children, Joyce (Mike) Kremer of Cascade, Tom (Stacy) Nehl of Marion, Donna (Bill) Canovan of Janesville, Wis., and Linda (Steve) Werner of Dyersville; seven grandchildren, Chad (Kerry) Kremer, Dan (Stacy) Kremer, Carissa (Brian) Gehl, Rachel Nehl, Charlie Nehl, Becky and Mandy Canovan; five great-grandsons; two brothers, Clarence (Adella) Lahr and Alvin Lahr; and two sisters, Mary Jane Felton and Theresa Goedken. Rose is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Joe (Connie) Nehl and Gilbert (Wanita) Nehl; and a sister-in-law, Gerry Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Wallace; a daughter-in-law, Michele Nehl; four brothers, John, Joe, Alfred and Nicholas Lahr; three sisters, Veronica Russ, Margaret Oehler and Loretta Lahr; 11 brothers-in-law; and seven sisters-in-law.
Memorials are preferred to Camp Courageous and Sacred Heart Catholic School.
