Nechanicky, William G. 'Nick'
Retired Army Colonel, William G.”Nick” Nechanicky, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2010, while battling pneumonia at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, MD. Graveside services to be held with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010.
William was born Dec. 5, 1916, in Buckingham. He graduated from Geneseo Consolidated High School and Iowa State University in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 - 1972. He was a lifetime member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Iowa State University Alumni Memorial Union Association, as well as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Organizations.
He is survived by two sons, Robert William Nechanicky of Gaithersburg, Md. and Douglas Charles Nechanicky of Columbia, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Carol Martin of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred M. Nechanicky of Waterloo and Celia J. Scott of Sycamore, Ill.; and one brother, Robert D. Nechanicky of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carroll (Womack) Nechanicky.
“The Colonel” enjoyed many hobbies including playing golf, traveling, Nechanicky genealogy, and spending time with his family and may friends.
