Nearad-Novy, Leone M.
Leone M. Nearad-Novy, 95, of Solon, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Solon Care Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 South Cedar St. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. A celebration luncheon will be held following the burial at the Solon American Legion.
Leone was born Sept. 19, 1917, in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Frank and Amelia (Chaloupka) Maresh. She married George F. Nearad on Jan. 24, 1934. George died Aug. 17, 1976. She later married Frank “Bud” Novy on Dec. 28, 1981. Frank died Nov. 25, 1990. Leone had worked for Hollands Grocery, Solon Care Center, Mercy Hospital and at The Alamo Hotel in Iowa City.
She enjoyed playing cards, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and spending time with her friends and family.
Leone is survived by her children, Wilbur (Mary) Nearad of Solon, Richard (Naomi) Nearad of Swisher, Shirley (Leo) Prochaska-Ruth of Solon, Terry (Bill) Hoffman of Ely and Barb Pulido of Muscatine; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Hynek of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Rose Maresh of Ely.
Leone was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and a brother, Lloyd Maresh.
