Neal S. Nesselroad, 59, of West Des Moines, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at his home. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with the Rev. John Reynolds Jr. officiating. Inurnment: Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to BGM High School or the Nesselroad Family Scholarship Fund, in care of Kloster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 341, Brooklyn, IA 52211.
Neal is survived by his daughters, Rachel and Brooke and close friend Robin Cheek, both of Ankeny; a sister, Nancee (Jon) Cook of Decorah; a niece, Emily (Kevin) Smith; and three nephews, Peter and Joe Wykhuis and Grant Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nicole Wykhuis.
Neal Nesselroad was born Oct. 13, 1956, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Barbara Sherwood Nesselroad. He graduated from BGM in 1975 and attended UNI. While there, he worked at Niederhauser Airways in Cedar Falls, servicing airplanes and began working on his pilot ratings. He moved to Des Moines in 1985 to fly for Des Moines Flying Service. In 1987, he was hired as a corporate pilot with Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, where he flew for more than 20 years, retiring in 2013.
Neal enjoyed his motorcycles, cars, golf, flying, Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
