Nation, Donald E. 'Don'
Donald E. “Don” Nation, 84, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, in his Mount Vernon home. Don's funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. The family will great friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Don will be buried in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery, following a light lunch at the church.
Surviving Don are two sisters, Bev (Gordon) Behrens and Maxine Havill of Mount Vernon.
Don is also survived by nieces and nephews, Warren, Michael, Kevin, John, Sue Havill, David (Carmie) Behrens and Marcie (Ed) Fiala.
Preceding Don in death were his parents and brother-in-law, Charles Havill.
Don was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Tama County, the son of Ernie and Vernis Bredfeldt Nation. He and his family moved to Mount Vernon from Tama in the summer of 1936. Don worked for 32 years at Kruse Lumber Yard, one year for Dewald Lumber Yard and eight years at Gordon Lumber, all at Mount Vernon, retiring at the age 62. He was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church where he ushered for 48 years. Don's faith carried him through many trials in life.
Don enjoyed football, basketball, various hobbies, painting pictures and mowing his yard. He loved people and entertaining company.
