NANCY SUE WILLIAMS
Marion
Nancy Sue Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away from complications of cancer on Jan. 25, 2018. She died at home with her husband and son while in hospice care. Nancy was loved deeply by her family and friends. She was one of those rare people who always had the interests of others at heart.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, with the Rev. Elizabeth Hilkerbaumer officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Nancy was born on May 25, 1952, the daughter of Kenneth and Margery Jacobsen in Marion, Iowa. She graduated from Marion High School in 1970 and from Coe College in 1974 with cum laude honors, earning a bachelor's degree in Spanish. Nancy was very proud of her time as a college cheerleader. During her student teaching at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1973, she met her husband, Colin Williams. The two were married on June 21, 1975. They had one son, Christopher, who now lives in Cottage Grove, Minn., with his wife, Amberly, and daughter, Minka. Nancy taught Spanish at Washington and Kennedy high schools in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2010.
Family vacations, particularly to Hilton Head Island, S.C., were among her favorites. Another family highlight was a trip to Augusta, Ga., and The Masters Tournament. She also enjoyed cruises and other vacations with family and friends. Among her other interests were drawing house plans, writing children's stories, inventing board games, and running a small necklace business. Nancy enjoyed family golf outings and playing with her Ladies on the Ridge group at Hunters Ridge. Among her favorite times were state mother-son tournaments with Chris. Her family and her church were very important parts of her life.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Colin Williams; their son, Chris (Amberly) Williams; granddaughter, Minka; older sister, Janet (Dave) Nevins of Grinnell, Iowa; younger brother, Dick (Julie) Jacobsen of Ladue, Mo.,; as well as extended family members, including in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
