Nancy June Coffman, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at Westridge Care Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Nancy was born on August 25, 1959, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Gerald and Evelyn (Henderson) Leggins. She spent the first 18 years growing up in Atalissa, graduating from West Liberty High School in 1977. She spent one year at Kirkwood Community College before getting a job as a computer operator for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools. She spent the next 37 years working and growing in the technology area. After leaving the district she worked for a Thrivent Financial Advisor as well as going back to the school district and working at Franklin Middle School and Jefferson High School.
On July 12, 1980, she married the love of her life, Phil Coffman, and together they raised two children. They enjoyed many adventures together.
Nancy liked to spend her spare time scrapbooking and sewing. She was involved in several church activities through the years including Sunday School teacher, VBS organizer, youth leader, church board member, women’s Synod board member, prayer shawl and quilting group and several years as a Girl Scout Leader.
She is survived by her husband Phil, son, Justin (Dorrie) Coffman, daughter, Heather, one grandson, Logan and brother, Tom (Kris) Leggins; in-laws, David and Margaret Coffman, sister-in-law, Patti (Jeff) Johnston, brother-in-law, Greg (Denise) Coffman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother, Tim Leggins and her beloved pup Oliver.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to St. Dorcas Circle or Colon Cancer Research.
