Nancy Cutforth Anderson
NANCY CUTFORTH ANDERSON
Coralville
Nancy Cutforth Anderson passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Sept. 22, 2018, due to complications from pneumonia.
Nancy was born on March 7, 1950, in Des Moines to James and Mary Clare Cutforth. Nancy attended school in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1968. She attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with degrees in elementary education and Spanish. In 1972, she began a 37-year career teaching elementary school, starting in Muscatine, Iowa, then Solon, Iowa, and then Iowa City, teaching at Roosevelt and Hoover elementaries.
On June 14, 1975, she was united in marriage to Gary Anderson. Gary and Nancy spent 47 laughter and travel-filled years together in Coralville, where they raised their son, Christopher. She was a dedicated and compassionate teacher and an inspiring, understanding friend to so many. Her genuine and almost constant smile along with her sense of humor and outgoing personality were destined to light up a room.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gary; son, Christopher, and his husband, Chris Mark, of Chicago; and her brother, Michael Cutforth of Takoma Park, Md.
Per her wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., in Iowa City. Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
