Cedar Rapids
Nancy J. Boland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. She will be cremated at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A private Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church at a later date.
Nancy is survived by her son, Kerry Norton, and daughter, Lisa Shipley, both of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Douglas (Lois) Zanka, Cedar Rapids; a special niece, Stacy Zanka, Cedar Rapids; nephews, John (Saba) Moses of Florida and Douglas (Erika) Zanka of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins, including a close cousin, Diane (John) Moore, Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Nancy was born Jan. 16, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Frank S. and Irene (Clift) Zanka. She married James L. Boland on Jan. 1, 1975. He died in 2005. Nancy worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Last Hope Animal Rescue, 1853 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Nancy's daughter, Lisa, who cared for her mother for several years, and to her son, Kerry, for all of his help. Thanks to UnityPoint Hospice for its support during the last few months.
