Nancy A. Voelschow, 70, passed away on June 4, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. A Reflection and Celebration of Nancy’s Life, by Pastor Sherrie Ilg, will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Nancy was born on Nov. 19, 1952, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She and her sister, Diane, were raised on the family farm with loving parents, along with their pets and horses. They have remained very close. Nancy graduated from Laurens High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music, as a pianist, from Iowa State University. Following college, Nancy and Jim moved to Chicago, where she worked for an advertising agency and worked on accounts that included McDonalds and Schlitz. They returned to Iowa in 1981 to settle in Cedar Rapids. She worked in sales/marketing and taught private piano lessons. Nancy was very active in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church as a Stephen’s Minister and member of the handbell group. She and Jim were members of Elmcrest Country Club and played in numerous husband-wife golf tournaments. She also competed in many women’s golf tournaments. They enjoyed time together at their condo in Galena, vacationing in Disney World and frequent trips to Arizona to visit her parents. Throughout all of her activities, Nancy’s pride and joy was her daughter, Erin, who she supported in every possible way.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Jim Voelschow; daughter, Dr. Erin Voelschow (and her husband Russell Bunger); and sister, Diane Furlong.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Doris Roewe; and brother-in-law, Mike Furlong.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
