Nancy A. Alessio, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Nancy was born on July 1, 1956, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Louis Alessio and Evelyn L. (Kopecky) Alessio. She attended Jefferson High School in Independence, IA, graduating with the Class of 1975. Later in life, Nancy attended the University of Northern Iowa to study social work. She graduated in 1988, started working as a social worker at People’s Memorial Hospital in Independence. She later went back to school and received her nursing home administrator’s license.
On July 6, 1974, Nancy married David Sherrets, and they made their home in Independence. Together they raised three children; Bridget, Jennifer, and Matthew. They later divorced.
Nancy later married Kevin Jensen, and they made their home together in Independence. They loved and appreciated art together. They made many memories over the years, and did a lot together until Kevin passed away in 2023.
Nancy is survived by two children: Bridget (James) Joyce, Walker, IA, and Matthew (Emily) Sherrets, Quasqueton, IA, five grandchildren: Riley Kolthoff, Raelynn (Halen Kellerhals) Kolthoff, Augustus “Gus” Joyce, Kaylee Sherrets, and Kaleb Sherrets, a sister, Jacquline (Chris) Smith, Arizona, and a brother, Timothy Alessio, Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Kolthoff.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 PM until 5 PM on March 22, 2025, in the Community Room at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA.
