Nail, Harold R.
Harold R. Nail, 85, of Marengo, formerly of Ladora, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty, of Marengo; two daughters, Sandra Kruse (Terry), of Lone Tree, and Lee Ann Haack (Leo), of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren and several great-and great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Nail and Virginia Hunzelman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry, in 2006; three brothers, Theron, Ellis and Harley Nail; and two sisters, Meryl Ranfeld and Eulah Mae Goldammer.
Harold Ray Nail was born March 6, 1924, in Barnett, Miss., the son of Ira Sylvester Nail and Bessie Dyer Nail. He graduated from Ladora High School and married Betty K. Hunzelman on Jan. 31, 1948, at her parents' home. The couple owned and operated Nail Trucking and were involved in the agriculture business until their retirement in 1984. Harold and Betty resided on a farm south of Ladora until moving to Marengo in 2006.
Harold was a member of the Ladora Methodist Church and held many church offices. He was a past member of the Ladora School Board, the Ladora Businessmen, the Ladora Saddle Club and the Ladora Senior Housing. He loved to watch Iowa Hawkeye basketball, attend the Iowa State Fair and especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren camping and fishing at their farm pond.
