Nagel, Donald Klair
Donald Klair Nagel, 93, of Edgewood, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Edgewood Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment: Edgewood Cemetery.
He was born July 27, 1918, the son of Charles and Minnie (Gurke) Nagel, near Delaware in Delaware County. He attended and graduated from the Oneida School.
On May 2, 1936, in Rockford, Ill., Donald was united in marriage to Joyce Preston of Center Junction. Six children were blessed to this union. Together they made their home in Edgewood.
Donald managed the Edgewood Oil Co. and the Edgewood Transport Co. until his retirement at the end of 1985. During his residency in Edgewood he spent 10 years on the fire department and 12 years as a council member for the city.
He enjoyed the local school sports, the golf course, and the Iowa Hawks.
Survivors include his two sons, Robert (Betty) Nagel of Pueblo, Colo., and Daniel (Alex) Nagel of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; six grandchildren, Jon, Justin, Joe, Preston, Pancho and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; a daughter, Gloria; three sons, Raymond, David and Dennis; two brothers, Norman and Frances; and a sister, Berniece Hockaday.
