NADINE MARY WILSON Nevada, Iowa Nadine Mary Wilson, 90, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Nadine was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Betty (Beranek) Gorman. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1945 and was united in marriage to Robert Wilson on July 29, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. Nadine was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada.
Nadine owned Nadine's Drapery and Decorating in Ames for many years until her retirement in 1999. She spent 14 years at Story County Senior Care, where she wrote a column for the Nevada Journal about the happenings in the facility. Nadine loved animals and was instrumental in getting the cats that were at the nursing home for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and embroidery, coloring, writing poetry and gardening.
Nadine is survived by her children, John (Mary) Wilson of Ames, Nancy "Bu" Wilson (Keith Courtney) of Iowa City and Richard Wilson of Colo; two grandchildren, Joshua (Elgie) Laird-Wilson and Becky (Summer) Laird; a great-granddaughter, Elysia Laird-Wilson; her cousin, Darlene (Sojka) Burich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and two sisters, Patricia Adamek and Rosemary Wood.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada, with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Nevada.
The family wishes to express their thanks for the long-term service, friendship and support in making Nadine feel at home during her long residence at Story County Senior Care.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Public Library or the Story County Senior Care Activities Department.
