Nadine Elizabeth Miller, 95, of Norway, received her Christmas wish by dying early Christmas morning, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids with her family at her side. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Norway. Private family burial: St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fairfax. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. with tributes by Mercy's Honor Guard after 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Nadine is survived by her daughters, Pam Schmidt of Norway and Becky (Sterling) Warner of Melbourne, Fla.; her sons, Mark (Elaine) Miller of Norway, Joe (Diane) Miller of Cedar Rapids, Dick (Melanie) Miller of Melbourne, Fla., Kevin (Kathy) Miller of Norway, and Rex (Connie Chapman) Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; her 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne, on July 3, 2002; her infant son, Steven; son-in-law, Francis Schmidt; sister, Elaine Stallman; and brothers, Dr. Regis Weland and Curtis Weland.
Nadine was born on Aug. 21, 1923, the daughter of Nellis and Mary "Mae" Shea Weland, in Fairfax, and graduated from Walford High School. She obtained a registered nurse degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and worked there for over 40 years, retiring in 1981. Nadine married Verne Miller on Jan. 7, 1946, and together raised seven children and farmed near Norway. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Norway.
Nadine enjoyed making quilts and playing cards. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Nadine will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank the Gardens of Cedar Rapids for their care for Nadine, and to Father Vu for his special visits and prayers.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
