MYRTLE YANECEK
Cedar Rapids
Myrtle Yanecek, 92, of the Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2021. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, with a private graveside service following.
Myrtle was born on Sept. 6, 1928, in a farmhouse outside of Garner, Iowa, to Lena and George Hall. She was one of six children. She graduated from Garner High School in 1946 and was the Homecoming Queen her senior year. Myrtle attended Waldorf College in Forest City. Her first job was working for Hancock County in the courthouse in Garner. There, her brother Merle (Hall) introduced her to her soon–to-be-husband, Merle (Yanecek), who was teaching GI school in Garner following World War II. They were married on Dec. 4, 1948. They soon moved to a farm outside of Walford, Iowa (Merle's hometown), where Myrtle worked side by side with her husband while raising three children. They moved to an acreage near Garrison for three years before moving to Belle Plaine, where they resided for nine years. In 1971, Merle and Myrtle moved to Muscatine, Iowa. Myrtle worked in the trust department at Central State Bank until her retirement.
After their retirement, Merle and Myrtle moved to the Meth-Wick Community, where they lived for more than 20 years. Myrtle volunteered for a variety of projects assisting the Meth-Wick residents. Her daily exercise routine of walking the grounds and hallways was her trademark.
Survivors include her children, Kay (Harold) Shepherd of Vinton; Myrna (Kirk) VanDeWalle of Bella Vista, Ark., and Ted Yanecek (Dale Herron) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica (Desi) Druschel, Libby Greenlee, Kelly VanDeWalle, Kim (Eric) Bekker and Paige Butterfield; great-grandchildren, Jace and Halle Druschel, Jachob Roster, Sloane and Greyson VanDeWalle, Chelsee (Jake) Ronan, Cara (Saraha) Chamberlain, Mallori Chamberlain, Brock and Micah Butterfield; great-great-grandchildren, Brilee, Brantley and Tenlee Ronan; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hall; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her four brothers, one sister, and one great-grandson.
