Myrtle "Mert" F. Hare, 72, of Rowley, passed away May 15, 2014. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at White Funeral Home in Independence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Pastor Greg DeBoer will officiate. Burial will take place in Rowley Cemetery.
Mert was born Sept. 25, 1941, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Lelia Rundel. Earlier in her life she married and had three sons. Later, she married Richard Hare on April 22, 1989. She worked hard to support her three sons and retired from MHI in Independence.
Her hobbies included gardening, canning and sewing. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was on the Faith Circle and Quilting and Music Worship committees. She also assisted with funeral lunches. She was a proud member of Feathered Red Hatters of Northeast Iowa and loved spending time with her many wonderful friends.
Her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; her children, Randy Larson of Atkins, Scott (Shelly) Larson of Cedar Rapids and Rod (Sylvia) Larson of Aledo, Texas; her stepchildren, Danny (Sharky) Hare of Winthrop and Patty (Bradley) Organ of Independence; her grandchildren, Riley (Lindsy) and Lydia Larson, Hannah Cable-Larson and Rachel and Elizabeth Larson; her stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Hare and Samantha Hare; her great-grand-children, Cayden, Nolen and Graysen Larson; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Adamaya and Landin Hare; and her sisters, Evelyn Lang of Winthrop, Earlene Phelps of Vinton and Carol (Delbert) Brown of Waterloo. She also proudly served as Grandma Mert for the Smith family.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as sisters, Lois Widdel and Dorothy Neuenkirk; and brothers, Clyde, Clarence and Roy Main.
Memorials in Myrtle's honor may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.
