Myrna Conderman Ginther, 92, of Hiawatha, passed Monday morning, Sept. 20, 2021, at her home following a short illness. Visitation will be held from
2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Greenfield Cemetery, Knierim, Iowa.
Myrna Mae Green was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Westside, Iowa, daughter of Leslie Green and Violette (Schelldorf). She graduated from Carroll High School in 1947 and then attended Iowa State Teacher's College (University of Northern Iowa) to begin her teaching credentials. She taught in western Iowa and in Knierim, Iowa, where she met Walter Conderman. They married on Jan. 14, 1951, and later moved to Cedar Rapids. The couple had two sons. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1985.
Myrna graduated from Coe College in 1976 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a teaching certificate in elementary education. She was a teacher associate, elementary teacher, and substitute teacher for many years in public and parochial schools in the Cedar Rapids area.
Myrna enjoyed a variety of activities such as birdwatching, baking cookies, cakes and cinnamon rolls, swimming, exercising, dancing, embroidering,and writing cards and letters to friends and family. During her retirement years, she volunteered for the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and took piano, golf and flying lessons. Myrna was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.
In November 1997 Myrna married Arlo Ginther from Cedar Rapids. They enjoyed a nice life together attending dances, traveling to visit their children, and entertaining family and friends at holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald Earl Green; and her first husband, Walter Conderman.
Myrna is survived by her spouse, Arlo Ginther; two sons, Joel of Waukon and Greg of DeKalb, Ill.; a niece, Dawn (Al) Sabin of Cedar Rapids; three stepsons, Ronald (Rhonda) Ginther of Marion, Kenneth (Kim) Ginther of Palos Hills, Ill., and Steve (Elizabeth) Ginther of Jefferson City, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Linda (Lynn) Starry of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Cindy (Kerry) DeYarman of Cedar Rapids and JoAnn (Lonnie) Knapp of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice House.
