Myrle “Myrt” Marie Patterson, 93, of Swisher, passed away on Nov. 14, 2022, at the Solon Retirement Village. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Myrle was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Iowa City, the daughter of Frank C. and Gladys L. (Graves) Schafer. She graduated from Muscatine High School. Myrle married Clayton Patterson on Oct. 29, 1950, in Muscatine. She worked at Rockwell Collins for over 36 years, retiring in 1991. Myrt was an avid Hawkeyes fan, attending many events with family and friends. She enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles, dominos, playing cards and going for car rides. She was known for a quick-witted sense of humor, smile, conversations and will be greatly missed, yet will live on in our memories of her. She loved her friends, family, especially the grandchildren.
Myrt is survived by two grandchildren, Brady and Calli Werner of Williamsburg; sister-in-law, Dory Schafer of Illinois; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Cari Patterson-Werner; brothers, Richard Schafer, Robert (Jean) Schafer and Rex Schafer; and her sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schafer and Charolette Schafer.
Memorials may be directed to the Shueyville United Methodist Church in her name.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Solon Retirement Village, especially Kaylee, Kim and Tyson, for their loving care of Myrt.
