Myra Arlene Peiffer, 92, died Aug. 7, 2023, at the English Valley Care Center in North English, Iowa. She was born May 4, 1931, to William and Ethel (Parrish) Appleget in Wasseca Township in Minnesota. She attended school in Minnesota and when the family moved to Iowa she went to school West of Hayesville. Myra graduated from Sigourney High school in 1948. She was a secretary for a short time for ISEA. On Feb. 9, 1950, she married Richard John Peiffer at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. Myra and Richard lived and farmed on the home place near South English since 1950. They celebrated the homestead becoming a Century Farm in 2019. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parishes - St. Mary’s Keota and the Altar and Rosary Society, serving as an officer.
She was preceded by her parents; husband Richard; two daughters, Karen Strawn and Ann Genkinger; son Jay Peiffer; grandson Willis Strawn; siblings Richard Appleget, Wilmer Appleget, Charles Appleget, Viola Withworth and Laurena Hammes; and son-in-law Roger Fry.
She is survived by four daughters< Susan (Allen) Fredrickson of Alta, Meri (Jeff) Peterson of Alta, Lisa (Chris) Cowan of Ankeny and Jayne (Larry) Orris of Washington, daughter-in-law Connie Peiffer; son-in laws Calvin (Vicki) Genkinger and Bill Strawn of South English; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Visitation one hour before the service. Burial at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper.
