Myers, Merlyn A. 'Curly'
Merlyn A. “Curly” Myers, 91, of 320 33rd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at his home after a sudden illness. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial, with military rites, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Charles (A.K.) Traw of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Kelly (Tommy White) Traw of Washington D.C., and Nikki Traw of Portland, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Owen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and a brother, Bernard.
Merlyn was born on May 29, 1919, in Boone, the son of Austin and Olive Parks Myers. He married Dorothy I. Cave on July 11, 1953, in Marshalltown. She died in 1996. Merlyn was a foreman at Allis Chalmers and later retired from Harnischfeger after many years of service.
Merlyn was a member of the VFW and proudly served in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and many friends at his cabin on the Cedar.
Memorial donations may be given to Iowa City Hospice in Merlyn's name.
