Myers, Dale Archer
Dale Archer Myers, 95, of Kimberling City, Mo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 10, 2010, at Tablerock Healthcare Center, Kimberling City, Mo. Services were held May 13 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Kimberling City. The body was cremated.
Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn (Myers) Fuqua of Eaton, Colo.; a son, John Myers of Chicago; three grandchildren, Benjamin Fogelberg, Katherine Fogelberg and Michael Myers; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Josh Fogelberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orson and Molly Myers; his brother, Clifford Myers; and his wife, Ardyce Myers.
Dale Archer Myers was born on Sept. 4, 1914, in Rock Island, Ill. He began his working life as a printer and then became an optometrist. He attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry, where he graduated in 1938. He moved to Cedar Rapids, to begin his practice in 1939. He met Ardyce Hanson and they were married in 1940. He served three years in the Iowa State Guard and three more years in the U.S. Army during World War II, attached to the medical department in the base hospital at Camp Crowder, Mo. Afterward, he resumed his optometric practice in Cedar Rapids for 43 years.
His many interests included playing the saxophone, woodworking and model railroading. He helped build and run an Optimist Club model railroad club for boys. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids for many years and joined St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Kimberling City, Mo. in 1980.
