Myers, Capt. Ralph Roger
Born on Jan. 10, 1934, Ralph enjoyed a full and wonderful life. One of his proudest and fondest memories of growing up in Cedar Rapids was becoming a positive and recognized role model for the Hispanic community of C Avenue, where he spent his childhood.
On April 25, 1951, Ralph married the love of his life, Arlene Sweet, in Kahoka, Mo. They shared 57 years of heart-warming memories and treasured moments. In 1965, Ralph joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department. His distinguished career is defined by the integrity of his actions and his numerous contributions to the community throughout his years of service. Ralph became detective in 1969 and lieutenant detective in 1971. In 1973, Ralph was promoted to the position most recognized with his name, Captain.
Captain Myers was instrumental in initiating the first community crime prevention classes at Kirkwood Community College in 1974. He also served as an instructor at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy before retiring from active service in 1994.
Capt. Myers's love for life was only surpassed by his love for his family and friends. His smile and sense of humor could light up the room, and his memory will forever be close to the hearts of anyone who had the honor to know him.
In lieu of flowers, Capt. Myers would please request any memorials be sent in care of Mercy Hospice, who provided the loving and supportive care to both he and his wife as they prepared for their passing.
Cards may be sent to: Jo Happel at 2043 Franklin Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
