Mustion, John W.
John W. Mustion, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died March 13, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Per his wishes he was cremated at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids, with a request for no memorial service.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Louise Mustion (who is a resident of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion); a son, Bill Mustion of Eldon, Mo.; a grandson, Sean Mustion of Eldon, Mo.; half sister, Carolyn Stephens, address unknown; and sister-in-law, Connie Houston of Eldon, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Joe P. Stephens; stepmother, Josey Mustion; and stepbrother, Joe Stephens.
John was born Sept. 21, 1926, the son of William Mangrum Mustion and Opal Fisher Mustion of West Plains, Mo. He was a graduate of Neosho, Mo., High School. After high school he joined the Merchant Marines as an engineer from Jan. 3, 1945 to Sept. 18, 1947. John was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 29, 1948; was transferred to Enlisted Reserve Corps on Dec. 12, 1949, and was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States on Dec. 11, 1954. After discharge from active duty he was a bricklayer in the Neosho area. John also worked for a number of years for the Neosho, Mo., water treatment plant. John and Louise were married June 25, 1955, in Neosho, Mo. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1970. John started work at the Cedar Rapids Water Pollution Control Plant in 1970 and retired in 1992. After retirement John and Louise traveled about the United States.
John was a good and helpful neighbor.
The family would like to thank the 911 First Responders for fast and professional response, the staff at St. Luke's Emergency, ICU, and hospice unit. Also many thanks for the calls and condolences from friends and neighbors.
