Murty, Nicholas 'Nick'
Nicholas “Nick” Murty, 28, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marshalltown, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Nicholas Duane Murty was born in Marshalltown on June 14, 1983, the son of Bill Murty and Linda (Lentner) Davis. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. Nick attended high school in Marshalltown and then later enlisted in the Navy. He moved to Cedar Rapids, where he was employed with Mediacom.
Nick loved the Hawkeyes, his collection of over 300 VHS movies, playing cards with family and friends, and NASCAR.
Nick will always be remembered for always giving hugs.
He loved his family, friends, his cat, Missy Murty, and most of all, his son, Thomas Murty.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Murty of Peosta; his cat, Missy Murty; his father, Bill (Margee) Murty of Asbury, Mo.; his mother, Linda (James) Davis of Marshalltown; his siblings, Aaron Hulin of Cedar Rapids, Timbre Murty of Asbury, Mo., Dayton Murty of Asbury, Mo., and Tyrell Davis of Marshalltown; his grandparents, Lawrence (Pat) Murty, Rebecca Murty and Bev Lentner; and his many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Duane Lentner; his uncles, Mike Gunter and Andy Silhanek; and great-grandparents.
