Murray, Robert H.
Robert H. Murray, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Michael Metz will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jean; two sons, Scott of Cedar Rapids and Kevin (Laura) of Sac City; a daughter, Susan (Dave) Aspenson of Black Forest, Colo.; two half brothers, Roger and Randy; and a half sister, Rocheen. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Wyatt and Ethan Murray.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill.
Bob was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Des Moines, the son of Joseph “Rod” and Verda Otteson Murray. He married M. Jean Nelson on June 11, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Bob was manager of the numerical control department at Rockwell-Collins and retired from there in 1983 after more than 31 years of service.
Bob was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and proudly served in the Army. He was an avid golfer, golfing five days a week with his friends and even had a hole-in-one in 1963. He enjoyed woodworking, doing family genealogy and sailing with his wife, Jean, on Lake Macbride.
Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
