MURIEL NIFFENEGGER
Kalona
Muriel I. Niffenegger, 97, of Kalona, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Kalona United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.
A memorial fund has been established for Kalona United Methodist Church and hospice.
Muriel I. (Michel) Niffenegger was born Aug. 24, 1917, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Alma (Ford) Michel. She graduated from Kalona High School and Iowa Teachers School. Muriel taught at Middleburg School for three years. On March 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Arlis Niffenegger in Brooklyn, Iowa.
She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and Rebekahs. Muriel enjoyed dancing, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include six children, Michael (Joyce) Niffenegger of Kalona, Gerald (Eliete) Niffenegger of Florianopolis, Brazil, Ward (Kathy) Niffenegger of Kalona, Bill (Beverly) Niffenegger of Cloud Croft, N.M., and Dixie (Steve) Schlabaugh and Jane (John) Schlabaugh, both of Kalona; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Muriel in death were her parents, and her husband, Arlis, in 1981.
