MURIEL LEGORE
Cedar Rapids
Muriel Janice (Field) Legore, 88, died March 26, 2016, at The Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by her family.
Muriel was born April 12, 1927, the daughter of Alfred and Delpha (Anderson) Field, in Forest City, Iowa. She graduated from Thompson High School. Muriel attended Waldorf College and Iowa State, and graduated from Drake University with a degree in education. She enjoyed teaching kindergarten and third grade for 28 years in Scranton, Glidden, Des Moines and Urbandale.
She met her husband, Richard Legore, in Scranton, and they were married on April 13, 1952. They started their family there and then moved to Des Moines in 1967. In 2004, Muriel and Rich moved to Mount Vernon to be closer to family. Muriel moved to Meth-Wick in 2008 and often said "I could not be in a better place than Meth-Wick."
Family was very important to Muriel, especially her grandchildren. Holidays and birthday celebrations were her specialty. Muriel was a "people person" and loved to chat. She enjoyed helping others, no matter where she was. Muriel previously was very active in Des Moines Central Lutheran Church. Recently she enjoyed the Meth-Wick Manor chapel services and Bible studies. Muriel was proud of her Norwegian heritage and looked forward to oyster stew and lefse.
Muriel is survived by her two children, Tim (Diane) Legore and Cheri Wilmoski; grandchildren, Megan (Derek) Sirois, Kara (Daniel) Lentz, Todd Wilmoski, Stephanie (Greg) Meier, Chris (Sara) Legore and Ben (Kelsey) Legore; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Sundet; brother, Al (Betts) Field; brother-in-law, Larry (Susan) Legore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2009; and brother-in-law, Harold Sundet in 2015.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 9:30 a.m Thursday. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
Muriel asked for people to think of a special memory of her. Please feel free to share them on the website at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Meth-Wick Chaplaincy.
