Muret, Garrah
Garrah Muret, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 27, 2009, at Keystone Cedars following an extended illness. Memorial services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Inurnment will take place at St. Paul's United Methodist Church columbarium. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Carole, are his children, Don Muret and wife Dana of Charlotte, N.C., and their children, Madeline and Carolyn, Suzanne MacLaughlin and husband Scott of Naperville, Ill., and their children, Jenna and Alex, and Bob Muret and wife Jeanne of Raleigh, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Suzanne Cottrell.
Lenos Garrah Muret was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Lenos Herschel and Lillian (Haskill) Muret. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Carole Scherwat on Feb. 23, 1957, in Chicago. He moved to Cedar Rapids and began a 35-year career as an electrical engineer with Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the IEEE and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed boating at Lake Macbride, Lake Rathbun and Door County, Wis.
His passions included live theater, music, art, and traveling the world. He studied genealogy and traced his family history back to the 17th century. He also was known to enjoy delicious foods, fine wines, and the occasional cigar. He will be fondly remembered for his insight and aptitude to fix anything. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Prostate Cancer Foundation.
