Mullinnix, Delores R.
Delores R. Mullinnix, 63, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial at Stumptown Cemetery in River Junction will follow a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Delores was born Aug. 18, 1947, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy (Huber) Schmitz. She graduated from North Fayette High School in 1965 and later went on to graduate in 1968 from the Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City. Shortly following her graduation, Delores married Leroy Mullinnix in West Union, Iowa. In 2009, Delores retired from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after working for the hospital for over 40 years.
Delores was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and nurse, who truly cherished the time she spent with her family, friends, and especially those moments with her grandchildren.
In her free time, Delores enjoyed spending time with her dog Charlie, puzzles, board games, reading, listening to music, crocheting and Swedish weaving. She was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Rapid Creek Book Club.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy of Iowa City; and their three sons, Steven (Staci) and their children, Warren, Elaine and Harvey, all of Dallas, Michael (Heather) and his children, Andrew and Madison, all of Iowa City, and Jason (April) and their daughter, Liana, all of Overland Park, Kan. Survivors also include her 11 siblings, Marie (Donald) Gurnett of Iowa City, Janice Roberts of Hallettsville, Texas, Ron (Louise) Schmitz of Crawfordsville, Linda (Jim) Paine of Minneapolis, Norma (Larry) Stanfield of Iowa City, Leona (Dale) Wauters of Cedar Rapids, Vernon (Cindy) Schmitz of West Union, Lois (Mike) Akey of Burlington, Marilyn (Randy) Stepan of West Union, Victor (Karen) Schmitz of West Union and Cindy (Forrest) Leveille of North Liberty.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Bill Roberts.
