Mullinex, Viola M. Bonesteel
Viola M. Bonesteel Mullinex, 83, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at Grace Community Church, Shellsburg, with Pastor Edward Kraft officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Viola was born April 16, 1927, in Vinton, to Theron “Pete” and Louise (Haase) Bonesteel, and graduated from the Shellsburg High School. On Oct. 31, 1947, she married Thurley G. Mullinex at Shellsburg. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2005.
A member of Grace Community Church, Viola enjoyed serving her congregation in the Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of the Shellsburg Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge. She loved to garden.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Linda) Mullinex of Marion and LaVern (Karen) Mullinex of Charles City; and her grandchildren, Brian and Angie Mullinex, both of Merrimac, Wis., Mike Mullinex of Colorado, Carly Mullinex who lives in Spain, and James, John and Jason Funti of Charles City.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bennie, LaVern and Dewey Bonesteel, and her sister, Fern Glean.
A memorial fund has been established.
