Mullane, Mary Catherine 'Kay'
Mary Catherine “Kay” Mullane, 89, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Blairstown, died Nov. 28, 2009, one day after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Memorial mass will be 9:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Phoenix, followed by a gathering at The Meadows club house, 2401 W. Southern Ave., Tempe, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Iowa Falls.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George; her son, Mike Franklin; daughter, Barb (Vance) Fuller; stepsons, Patrick (Kathy) Mullane and Mike (Jeanette) Mullane; and grandchildren, Carrie, Lisa and Riley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Franklin; sisters, Genevieve, Margaret and Marian; and brother, Hugh.
She was born July 30, 1920, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where she lived for 41 years. Her family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1961. She was employed as office manager for the Light Company Employees Credit Union for 13 years.
After the death of her husband John, she married George Mullane in 1970. They spent 39 wonderful years together. In 1975, Kay and George moved to the Phoenix area, where they managed apartment complexes until their retirement. They moved to The Meadows in Tempe where they enjoyed the company of many friends and activities for 27 years. Kay enjoyed golf, dance, bridge and her exercise group.
We will miss her deeply, but are thankful the Lord took her before she suffered greatly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to cancer research.
