Mulholland, Bernadine 'Deenie'
Bernadine “Deenie” Mulholland, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Amana. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ivan Nienhaus will officiate, with private family burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a rosary service starting at 3 p.m.
Bernadine is survived by her children, Robert (Von) Mulholland of Poway, Calif., Patricia (Ira) Bennett of Iowa Park, Texas, James (Peggy) Mulholland of Cedar Rapids, John (Sharon) Mulholland of Cedar Rapids, Gail Heaton of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Rick) Stahle of Cedar Rapids, Connie Vasquez of Cedar Rapids, Betty (Tom) Mayo of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Marty) Squires of Iowa City, George (Jan) Mulholland of Iowa Park, Texas, Gerri Lynn (Rick) Blazek of Cedar Rapids, Michael Mulholland of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Richard (Linda) Mulholland of Mount Vernon; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Mulholland of Lansing; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Mulholland of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford (on Aug. 12, 1988); daughter, Nancy Lee Mulholland; parents, George and Martha Whalen; one sister, three brothers and one son-in-law.
Bernadine was born March 1, 1918, in Lansing, Iowa, the daughter of George and Martha (Glynn) Whalen. She married Clifford Mulholland on Oct. 2, 1936, in Dubuque. She worked for All Fabric Cleaners in Cedar Rapids as a checker for 20 years before her retirement in 1980.
Bernadine was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Cedar Rapids and enjoyed bird watching, flowers, dancing, collecting angels and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Bernadine was the greatest inspiration to her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and now is free and dancing with her beloved Clifford in heaven.
The Mulholland family would like to thank the staff of Essence of Life Hospice and Colonial Manor Nursing Home for their great care of Bernadine throughout her illness.
