Moynihan, John T.
John T. Moynihan, 84, of Fairfax, died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, by the Rev. Dustin Vu and co-celebrant, the Rev. Jack Flaherty. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, where friends may visit Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is serving the family.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Fairfax; three children, Joyce (Dennis) Novak of Fairfax, Jim Moynihan of Denver, Colo., and Gary (Linda) Moynihan of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Novak, Michael and Nathan Moynihan; sister, Margaret Flaherty of Fairfax; and two nephews, the Rev. Jack Flaherty and Patrick (Lisa) Flaherty.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Flaherty and Arnold Svec.
John was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Fairfax, the son of Thomas and Mabel (Shea) Moynihan. He married Dorothy A. Kadera on Aug. 7, 1951, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford. John was a farmer in Fairfax and served in the Marine Corps. John was a member of the Marine Corps League of Cedar Rapids, the NRA, and a 50-year member of American Legion Pekomy Post 572. He loved to travel, especially his many trips to Las Vegas.
